The hepatology and abdominal transplant teams are pleased to welcome several new physicians in recent months. Yeshika Sharma, MD joins the hepatology team at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth welcomes hepatologist Craig Rosenstengle MD, and two new abdominal transplant surgeons, Marc Najjar, MD and Nina Wickramaratne, MD.
Dr. Sharma and Dr. Rosenstengle are fellowship-trained in transplant hepatology.
Dr. Yeshika Sharma is a board-certified transplant hepatologist with an interest in treating primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma, alcohol-related liver disease, metabolic associated steatohepatitis, hereditary hemochromatosis and alpha-1 antitrypsin disease. She is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.
Dr. Sharma
Dr. Sharma completed her gastroenterology and transplant hepatology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati after her internal medicine residency and general medicine fellowship at Barnes Jewish Hospital.
She is passionate about the power of education for her patients and making a tangible difference in patients’ lives when managing with the complexities of liver diseases.
Dr. Craig Rosenstengle is a transplant hepatologist with an interest in acute and chronic liver disease. He supports his patients through all aspects of liver diseases and identifies his specialty in liver transplant evaluation and post-transplant management.
Dr. Rosenstengle is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, Gold Humanism Honor Society and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He joins the Fort Worth team from Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where he completed a Gastroenterology fellowship and a Transplant Hepatology fellowship.
Dr. Rosenstengle
Dr. Rosenstengle works with patients on shared decision making to align their treatment plans with their goals and values. He feels rewarded in working with patients over time and seeing them achieve improved quality of life.
Within the field of abdominal transplant surgery, Dr. Najjar and Dr. Wickramaratne are fellowship trained transplant surgeons from respected training institutions.
Dr. Marc Najjar is a multi-organ transplant, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeon. A member of the American Society of Transplant Surgery, the International Liver Transplantation Society, the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and the International Hepato-Pancreato Biliary Association, his clinical focus is on abdominal organ transplantation, transplant oncology, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery including minimally invasive robotic surgery. He completed his general surgery internship and residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia University Medical Center and his fellowship in transplant and hepatobiliary surgery at University of Michigan Medical Center. He is certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and transplant and hepatobiliary surgery by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
Dr. Najjar
Dr. Najjar is very passionate about improving access to care for marginalized patients especially across socioeconomic and linguistic barriers. Dr. Najjar speaks 10 languages and makes it a priority to be able to communicate with his patients in their native languages to help them navigate some of the most difficult times in their lives. A key focus of his research is on transplant oncology and improving outcomes of liver transplantation for cancer. He has multiple peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research findings nationally and internationally, for which he has received several awards.
Niluka (Nina) Wickramaratne, MD, MS is a multi-organ transplant surgeon. She performs liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, living donor nephrectomy, and treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the liver, biliary system and pancreas with a focus in robotic surgery and medical education. She received her medical degree from the University of Maryland and went on to complete a general surgery residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and a fellowship in Abdominal Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital. She is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and abdominal transplant surgery and hepatobiliary surgery by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons
