What is pituitary cancer?
The pituitary gland is located behind the nasal sinuses and above the roof of the mouth at the base of the skull. Pituitary cancer is when the cells in this gland begin to grow abnormally and rapidly. These cells can form a tumor in the gland, but most of the time these are benign.
Pituitary cancer treatment
When diagnosed with a tumor in the pituitary gland, your physician may need to order additional tests to determine if it is cancerous or not. Based on test results, the treatment plan may vary.
Your treatment plan will be determined by your care team based on age, medical history, type and stage of pituitary cancer, and personal preferences. Pituitary cancer treatment options may include:
- Surgery
- Radiation therapy
- Medication
- Pain management
- Clinical trials (when appropriate)
