What is adrenal cancer?
Adrenal cancer occurs when cells in the adrenal glands begin changing and multiplying out of control. There are several types of adrenal cancers, and the most common are cancer of the adrenal cortex (outer layer of the adrenal gland) and pheochromocytoma (inside layer of the adrenal gland).
Adrenal cancer treatment
Certain tumors respond better to certain cancer treatments. Adrenal gland tumors are commonly treated with surgery. However, a combination of treatment methods may be needed.
Your treatment plan will be determined by your care team based on age, medical history, type and stage of adrenal cancer, and personal preferences. Adrenal cancer treatment options may include:
- Active surveillance (careful watching and waiting)
- Surgery
- Adrenalectomy
- Posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy (PRA)
- Robot-assisted posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy (RAPRA)
- Chemotherapy
- Radiation therapy
- Pain management
- Clinical trials (when appropriate)
